The previous Iraqi regime has been draining the Marshes since late 1980s during the Iran-Iraq war, and at an accelerated pace since 1991. Executed former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein ordered the marshes drained in the early 1990s as a way to drive out Shiite opposition groups in southern Iraq and gain greater political control of the people in the area. By diverting the flow of the Tigris and Euphrates away from the Marshes through a series of dikes and canals, the regime has turned over 90% of the Marshes into a salt-encrusted wasteland in less than a decade. As climate change experts meet in Bangkok, poor nations suffering the brunt of global warming's worst effects are determined their voices will not be drowned out by bickering world powers. Impoverished countries, struggling with a lack of money, basic technology, large populations and weak infrastructure, have few tools to tackle climate change or halt its impact on their environment. كشفت وزارة التجارة، أمس الأربعاء، عن إحباط محاولة تهريب كمية من الرز العنبر في بغداد المخصص لصالح السلة الغذائية.
وذكر مدير عام دائرة الرقابة التجارية والمالية في الوزارة محمد حنون الحمداني في بيان تلقته ” المراقب العراقي “:أن “الفرق الرقابية المشتركة من الدائرة ومديرية مكافحة الجريمة المنظمة تمكنت من ضبط عجلة محملة بالرز المحلي (العنبر) الذي يحمل شعار وزارة التجارة المخصص لصالح السلة الغذائية متجهة من سوق جميلة في بغداد الى محافظة النجف الأشرف”.
وأضاف، أن “عملية الضبط تمّت بعد ورود معلومات عن طريق دائرة مكافحة الجريمة المنظمة التي تمكنت من إلقاء القبض على سائق الشاحنة وحجز الكميات واحالة القضية الى الجهات القضائية المختصة”.
وأكد الحمداني بحسب البيان، أن “الحملات الرقابية مكثفة لمتابعة موضوع تهريب مواد السلة الغذائية وعدم مناقلتها بين المحافظات منعاً من احتكارها أو التلاعب بالأسعار وبالنتجة تفويت الفرصة على ضعفاء النفوس والمخالفين”.
